About Abuur Labs

Abuur Labs is a restoration-focused organization exploring practical ways to support dryland resilience in East Africa, starting with Somalia.

We are interested in approaches that connect:

  • land restoration
  • community participation
  • ecological design
  • field intelligence
  • practical implementation

Our focus is not only on ideas, but on how ideas become workable use cases, useful pilot programs, and long-term local capability.

We believe restoration is strongest when it is:

  • grounded in real conditions
  • built with communities
  • practical in delivery
  • measurable over time
  • useful beyond one-off interventions

Over time, we want Abuur Labs to contribute not only to restoration thinking, but also to local technical and ecological capacity by working with and hiring young people in-country.

Where we’re based

Abuur Labs is based in Nairobi, Kenya. We also maintain a branch presence in Garissa to stay close to field work and dryland communities in that region. We expect to expand our footprint over time as programs grow.

Team

For now the organization is founder-led and intentionally small. As pilots and partnerships grow, we expect to add people in the field and in support roles.
